Formby Hare 2025

The 2025 Formby Hare took play on Sunday 18 th  May. Played over 36 holes, this was the 76 th staging of the elite amateur competition.

Our congratulation goes to Greg Holmes from Royal Birkdale who won his 4 th  Formby Hare title and for the 3 rd  time in a row. This was a hugely impressive performance.

Players taking part in Formby Hare an S&A Bowl will compete for the Lancashire Links Trophy which is a 72 hole World Amateur Golf Ranking event.

The Formby Hare will be played as a 36-hole scratch competition in conjunction with S&A for the Lancashire Links Trophy.

Mixed Junior Open – Monday 11th August

Registrations are now open for our Mixed Junior Open on Monday 11th August.

The 18 strokeplay event is open to both boys and girls with a handicap of 24 and under. There are a number of prizes available on the day.

Welcome to new Junior Captain Alfie Hall

The Junior Committee are pleased to announce that Alfie Hall has accepted the nomination to become Junior Captain 2025.

Alfie has represented the Club in a range of junior matches including the Quadrangular trophy and SDGA league matches. He has also represented the Club in the Scratch team. Alfie has been selected for Lancashire Boys at U14 and U16 level, going on to achieve a handicap of scratch in summer 2024 (currently 0.8).Alfie currently attends Myerscough College, where he is undertaking their Golf Studies course, alongsidecaddying at Formby.

We wish Alfie well for his time as Junior Captain 2025. The Junior Committee would also like to thank the current Junior Captain, Niall Lynch, who has been a strong supporter of the junior section throughout 2024.

New 2025/26 Captain – Mr Paul McManus

The Captain and Council are pleased to announce that Mr Paul McManus has accepted the nomination to be the next Captain of Formby Golf Club. We wish him every success in post #1884

New Airflow flags at FGC

With the weather conditions sometimes very ‘linksy’ at Formby Golf Club, we are delighted to introduce new Tacit Golf airflow flags from Tacit Golf North making their debut at Formby GC.

They look fantastic and should help reduce strain on the pins during inclement weather.

Great day on Saturday at Formby as the team took on Formby Artisans (FAGC).

A narrow victory for Formby followed by a beautiful lunch and drinks.

‘The Lost Holes’ – 1984

1984 saw the changes to the course due to coastal erosion, below is the old Par 3 9th hole running along the coast and an overview of the ‘lost holes’.
Disappointing at the time to lose them but in their place came three of the finest holes on the course today. #linksgolf #1884

Scratch Team victory in the Selwyn Lloyd Bowl

Congratulations to Formby’s scratch team on their victory in the Selwyn Lloyd at West Lancs GC.

With wins against Heswell GC, West Lancs, Wallasey Golf Club and S&A the team secured the trophy for the first time in 53 years for Formby!

Amazing win well done!!
